FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Rubs

  • What makes Backyard Pit Rubs different?

All of our rubs are produced in-house using our own original recipes — the same blends we’ve shared for years with friends and family around the BBQ. Every flavour has been carefully created and tested by us to make sure it delivers the quality and taste we’re proud to put our name on.

We only use the finest quality ingredients with no unnecessary nasties, keeping our rubs full of authentic flavour and made for proper BBQ cooking.

  • Do your rubs contain allergens?

Yes — all of our rubs include a full allergen list on the packaging so you can buy with confidence.

    Our current allergens include:

    • Mustard
    • Sulphites / Sulphur Dioxide (naturally occurring in garlic powder)

While we take great care during production, all of our rubs are produced in the same preparation area, so we always recommend checking the label carefully if you have any allergies or dietary concerns.

  • Which rub is best for beginners?

At Backyard Pit Rubs, we don’t believe there’s such a thing as a “beginner” rub. Every one of our blends is designed to be versatile, easy to use, and packed with proper pit-master flavour — whether you’re firing up the BBQ for the first time or you’ve been cooking for years.

Our rubs are made to help anyone create bold, mouth-watering BBQ with minimal fuss. So go ahead, serve up incredible chicken, pork, brisket or burgers and impress your friends and family like you’ve been mastering the smoker for years.

Using the Rubs

  • How much rub should I use on my meat?

A little goes a long way with Backyard Pit Rubs. Our blends are packed with flavour, so you only need a generous coating to get great results.

As a guide, lightly cover the surface of your meat so it’s evenly seasoned without completely burying it. You can always add more to suit your taste, but our rubs are designed to deliver bold BBQ flavour without needing loads of product.

  • Can I use the rubs in the oven or air fryer? Absolutely 100%, In fact for a quick easy mid week dinner we use the air fryer for most of our rubs. Before we release the rubs we also check to see how versatile they are in the oven and air fryer. results are always just as good as the BBQ.

Storage & Shelf Life

  • Why has my rub clumped together?

You may notice some clumping in our rubs from time to time. Because we use no artificial ingredients, the natural sugars in the blend can sometimes cause this to happen.

Don’t worry — this won’t affect the flavour or performance at all. Once the rub is on the meat, you’ll still get exactly the same great taste and BBQ results.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch — we’re always happy to help.

The Veteran Chef BBQ & Smoker After 21 years of service in the Royal Navy ⚓ and RAF ✈️, my passion for bringing people together has found a new mission—serving authentic, slow-smoked BBQ with the same dedication, pride, and attention to detail that defined my military career. From low and slow smoked meats to flavour-packed street food, every dish is cooked with quality, consistency, and respect for traditional BBQ. I'm proud to use and now stock Backyard Pit Rubs—premium, small-batch BBQ seasonings that help create the bold flavours my customers have come to expect. If you've enjoyed the food, you can now take those same award-worthy flavours home and recreate them on your own grill. Whether I'm catering a local event, serving at a festival, or firing up the smoker for the community, my mission remains the same: great food, great flavour, and great people.
